Hair Up, Hair Down, and Everything In Between.

When I first started wearing hair, my biggest stress revolved around styling it for big events - whether that was a wedding, graduation, sports ceremony, prom, birthday party, etc.

I was only 13 when I started wearing wigs, which meant that I was only two years prior to my junior prom. Thankfully my bio hair had mostly grown back at that point and with the help of extensions, I was able to style my hair in a way that disguised any bald spots.

However, during my high school prom three years later, I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to do similar styles as my friends, as I was wearing a bonded piece at that time and wanted it to look as natural as possible.

What I’ve come to realize when wearing hair is that it opens up a world of opportunities & there are many ways to style your wig to ensure you feel confident at big events.

Here are a few things to keep in mind when preparing your wig or deciding which style to do for your upcoming event:

1. Wig Selection and Preparation:

The key to achieving a flawless prom or wedding hairstyle with a wig lies in selecting the right wig and preparing it beforehand.

Start by choosing a high-quality wig that matches your desired style, color, and texture. Synthetic or human hair wigs can both be excellent choices, depending on your budget and preferences.

Once you have your wig, make sure to properly wash and condition it to ensure it looks and feels its best. Styling products, such as wig sprays and heat protectants, can help maintain the wig's quality and prevent damage.

2. Exploring Various Wig Hairstyles:

When choosing a hairstyle, you can opt for curls, updos, sleek ponytails, or even braided styles.

My favourite place to find hair inspo is on Pinterest or Instagram - however, you can also find a hair tutorial on YouTube or ask a professional hair dresser to help you achieve your desired style.

Be sure to practice in advance either on your own head or by securing the wig on a mannequin head.

4. Accessorizing

Proms and weddings often call for extra pizzazz, and accessories can elevate your wig hairstyle to the next level.

Explore the world of hair accessories, such as  hairpins, headbands, tiaras, or floral embellishments, to add a touch of glamour or elegance to your look.

Ensure the accessories you choose complement your dress, theme, and overall aesthetic, while also taking care not to overwhelm the wig hairstyle itself.

By selecting the right wig, customizing it to suit your desired look, and incorporating complementary accessories, you can create stunning hairstyles that will leave a lasting impression.

Remember to experiment, seek inspiration, and practice your chosen style beforehand to ensure you feel confident and beautiful on your special day.
