With summer in full swing, many of us find ourselves dealing with the challenges of hot and humid weather. While wigs may not be the first thing that comes to mind for most when considering a summer accessory, for those of us experiencing hair loss, they can actually be very practical!
In one of my previous blog posts, I wrote about different styling options for the summer months. However, here are just a few things to keep in mind this summer when wearing wigs:
1. Choose Breathable Materials:
Choosing the right wig material is crucial when it comes to summer wear. Opt for lightweight and breathable materials such as a lace front or a full lace wig, which allow air to circulate and can prevent excessive sweating. These wigs are designed with a sheer lace base that mimics the appearance of a natural scalp, providing a comfortable and breathable fit.
You could also opt for a hat wig!
2. Try Shorter Styles:
Consider trying shorter wig styles during the summer months. Shorter wigs tend to be lighter and allow for better airflow, reducing the risk of feeling overheated. Bob wigs, or shoulder-length styles are great options to keep you cool.
But, if you’re someone who prefers longer styles & don’t feel comfortable switching between lengths, I suggest trying out a pony wig, as it will allow you to put your hair up!
3. Protect your scalp
Protecting your scalp is important even when wearing wigs. However, when choosing products to use on your body or around your hair, make sure to avoid sunscreen products with the active ingredient “Avobenzone”, as it can completely ruin the colour of your hair.
I’m sure we can all agree that during the summer, spending hours on hairstyling may not be the most practical or enjoyable. Especially if you live somewhere as humid as Florida - (hair styling was a nightmare there during the retreat! Haha)
Therefore, wearing wigs allows you to save time and effort, as you can easily style them in advance and they’ll be ready to wear. Simply slip on your wig, make any necessary adjustments, and you're good to go! Enjoy those summer months !
