A Note To My Younger Self

We’re almost halfway through #alopeciaawarenessmonth and here are some things I wish I could have told my younger self.

  1. Hair loss is HARD. There’s no question about it. But you are strong, and your hair loss is going to teach you so many things (strength, patience, how to be empathetic & self love to name a few)
  2. It’s not something you need to be ashamed of. No one is going to think you’re an alien, and if they do, they’re not your people.
  3. You are beautiful, with or without your hair.
  4. It’s okay to have bad days, even once you’ve accepted your hair loss. Accepting your hair loss doesn’t mean that you aren’t allowed to grieve and experience sadness.
  5. You will find your “tribe”, even if it takes 21 years of loss to find them. And they are going to be the most amazing group of women.
  6. Don’t be scared to experiment with alternative hair. Wearing different wigs can be fun! People dye their hair, add extensions and wear accessories all the time, why wouldn’t you?
  7. Being able to take a 5 minute shower & being able to slap your hair on and go is underrated.
  8. You will find someone who loves you for you, regardless of your hair loss. However, remember it’s important to love yourself first.
